Sassarini Elementary School follows California State and Sonoma Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) guidelines. The school district has adopted content standards in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. We utilize multiple measures of assessment in both Language Arts and Mathematics. These assessments determine whether students have met or exceeded grade level standards.  They also inform teachers about individual students needs and strengths.

SVUSD has adopted the McGraw Hill "Wonders" language arts program.  Wonders is a comprehensive literacy program that provides a wealth of research-based print and digital resources.  Wonders provides a strong foundation in early literacy skills, access to fiction and nonfiction texts, as well as a writing component.  The Wonders program also includes Wonders for English Learners, an English Language Development program, as well as WonderWorks, a literacy intervention program.

SVUSD has adopted the “Bridges in Mathematics” curriculum.  Bridges is a comprehensive math curriculum that implements the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics in a manner that is rigorous, engaging, and accessible to all learners.  The curriculum focuses on developing students’ deep understandings of mathematical concepts, proficiency with key skills, and ability to solve complex and novel problems. Bridges blends direct instruction, structured investigation, and open exploration.

SVUSD has adopted the TCI Social Studies Alive! curriculum for social studies and the TCI Science Alive! curriculum for science. Physical Education (PE) is a developmentally appropriate program taught by PE specialists as well as classroom teachers and emphasizes foundational skills in physical fitness and health.  In the area of social-emotional learning, teachers and support staff use the Second Step curriculum to teach our students about empathy, problem solving, and emotion management.
